Products Used to Present these Pages
(many of these products are shareware; ownership or registration is not implied)
Paintshop Pro for Win95 (Jasc Inc.)
An indispensable graphics utility. And it now supports Kai's Powertools. Who needs Photoshop?
Netscape Navigator 2.0 (Netscape Communications Corp--NCC, get it?)
Is anyone using anything else?
UltraEdit 32 (Ian D. Mead, 8209 Chestnut Hill Ct., West Chester, OH 45069)
Windows 95 GUI & Dialup Networking (Microsoft--who don't need a link from us)
I have to admit, Win95 is working for me. Eidolon SF : Online has been developed principally on 8Mb 486 machines (a DX-33 and a DX-66) running Win95, and both will run multiple Netscape 2.0 Windows, several editor windows, Eudora, the built-in winsock, a couple of folder windows and Paintshop Pro, for example, without becoming unusably slow (as long as there's around 15Mb of swapfile free). Win95 works very well. Mind you, it could be that Win3.0-3.11 lowered my expectations.
Statbot site statistics (Matt's Script Archive)
CyberSpyderlink tester (Aphrodite's Software)
This excellent utlility is written in Visual Basic and uses winsock to access the pages under a specific URL, checking all the links it finds. It's going to save us an extraordinary amount of time in the long term. Check it out.
FFW Search (Telenor Research)
A great Unix-side search utility. Installation is a breeze, even without a guru.
Alta Vista(DEC)
Simply the best on the Net. Forget everything else: I'm a converted Lycos fiend. Alta Vista wins.
As of 08-March-96, Alta Vista reported 19 external links into Eidolon : SF Online.
Apache httpd (Apache)
Sine qua non. Beware apache.com (Apache Digital Corporation): this is not the same as the .org people, and is in fact a Unix System Reseller run by a bunch of not particularly mainstream Christians who seem to subscribe to the "multiple God" thing from Genesis. Gee but the net is an interesting place.
