Blackwater Days

Black waters get your heart . . .

Terry Dowling's new book, Blackwater Days, is a collection of seven linked short stories set in and around the Blackwater Psychiatric Hospital in New South Wales' Hunter Valley.

The stories, inspired by Shaun Tan's painting "Black Water", were written in a creative burst in mid-1996.

Three stories from Blackwater Days have been published to date: "Beckoning Nightframe", "Jenny Come to Play", and "Downloading". "Beckoning Nightframe" was shortlisted for the 1997 Aurealis Award for Best Horror Short Story and was selected for Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling's Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, while "Jenny Come to Play" won the 1998 Aurealis Award for Best Horror Short Story and was selected for Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling's Year's Best Fantasy and Horror.

Blackwater Days was published April 2000 by Eidolon Publications, and is formatted as a companion volume to 1999's Antique Futures: The Best of Terry Dowling.

You can read "Downloading", the opening story in Blackwater Days, on Ellen Datlow's Event Horizon website, and you can order a copy of Blackwater Days from Eidolon Publications.
