New Novel Completed
Sean Williams has completed new young adult fantasy novel The Stone Mage and the Sea. The novel has been written with the assistance of the Australia Council and is yet to be sold to a publisher. You can read an advance chapter from the book online.

Williams Story in US Edition of Dreaming Down-Under
Jack Dann and Janeen Webb have sold US reprint rights to their World Fantasy Award winning anthology Dreaming Down-Under to Tor Books for a late 2000/early 2001. Dreaming Down-Under features Sean's story "Entre les Beaux Morts en Vie" ("Among the Beautiful Living Dead").

1999 Aurealis Awards Announced
The 1999 Aurealis Awards were presented on Monday 6 March 2000, in a ceremony held at the South Australian Writers' Centre and Sean Williams and Simon Brown was amongst the winners. "Atrax" won the 1999 Best Horror Short Story Award. Information on the 2000 Aurealis Awards is also available.

Overseas Rights Sold
Sean has sold overseas rights to several short stories. Polish SF magazine Nowa Fantastyka has bought reprint rights to "The Soap Bubble" for publication in Polish translation in either their February or March 2000 issue. French horror magazine Tenebre will reprint "Twist of the Knife" in November 1999. Tenebre has also commissioned an article about Stephen King's Carrie, which will appear in a forthcoming Stephen King issue of the magazine. Finally, "White Christmas" has been reprinted in the United States in the Scholastic anthology Altered Voices (a reprint of Lucy Sussex's 1994 Omnibus YA anthology The Lottery.

The Prodigal Sun Released
Sean's latest novel, The Prodigal Sun (a collaboration with Shane Dix) was published by Ace Books (USA) in November 1999, and will be published by HarperCollins Australia in March 2000. The Prodigal Sun can be ordered from amazon.com.

Australia Council Awards Major Grant
The Australia Council has awarded Sean a grant of $A50,000 to assist with the writing of four new novels: an adult science fiction novel, Widow of Opportunity (based on the novella "The Perfect Gun"), and a trilogy of young adult fantasy novels including The Stone Mage and the Sea, The Sky Warden and the Sun, and an as yet untitled third book. Publishers are to be finalised.

The Resurrected Man Wins the Ditmar Award
Sean's 1998 SF novel The Resurrected Man won the 1999 Ditmar Award for Best Novel. The Awards were presented at AussieCon 3 with Sean in attendance. Full Ditmar results can be found here.

Williams Sells to Swift in the UK
UK publisher Swift Publishers published a hardcover edition of Sean's 1996 Aurealis Award-winning SF novel, Metal Fatigue in August 1999. Metal Fatigue can be ordered from Amazon.co.uk.

Swancon 24 (ICon) 1 - 5 April 1999
The 24th Annual Western Australian SF Convention, ICon, will be held at The Metro Inn, South Perth from Thursday 1 April to Monday 5 April 1999. Guests include Jack Dann, Sean Williams and Janny Wurts, with Ippongi Bang, Jeremy G. Byrne, Stephen Dedman, Paul Kidd, Kuni Kimura, Dave Luckett, Don Maitz, Grant Stone, Jonathan Strahan and Janeen Webb.

Williams and Dix Publication Dates Set
The Prodigal Sun, Volume 1 of The Evergence Trilogy by Sean Williams and Shane Dix will be published by Ace Books in the USA and HarperCollins Australia in paperback in December 1999. The second volume will follow some time in the next millennium.
