Lirael's Accolades Flow In

Since its Ditmar Award win in June, Lirael has picked up several shortlistings and awards to add to its steady stream of critical acclaim.

Lirael won the National Award for Children's Literature in the 2002 South Australian Festival Awards for Literature (which included a $15000 cash prize, $5000 of which Garth donated back to the South Australian Writers' Centre). The book was listed as a 2002 Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association (and was also a 'Top Ten Best Book for Young Adults' in the January 2002 YALSA announcements from the ALA's Midwinter Meeting), included in the 14+ category of the 2001 edition of US-based Capitol Choices, and listed in the New York Public Library's "Books for the Teen Age 2002".

Lirael had been shortlisted in the 2001 Aurealis Awards (presented in March 2002) in both the 'Best Fantasy Novel' and 'Best Young Adult Novel' categories, but didn't win.
